Third Truck Crash on Route 115 in Three Weeks | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
It happened again. Police said another tractor trailer driver lost control and flipped at the bottom of the mountain along Route 115 in Plains Township. It's the third time in three weeks a crash like this happened.
The driver of the rig and another driver were not seriously hurt. Trucks over 10 and a half tons are banned from coming down this section of highway.
"They don`t know the mountain. That mountain is like going down a large hole. The elevation around the river is 500 feet. Up here on top is around 2000. Do the math. You are going down a good sized hole," said Carl Kresge, a truck driver from Bear Creek Township.
If a truck driver misses the first sign off the exit of the turnpike to not continue down the highway there are several more signs farther down indicating to stop and don`t go any further.
Four years ago a furniture truck driven by Henry Gfroehrer was hit by an out of control tractor trailer.
Earlier this week he won a multi-millioin dollar lawsuit against the trucking company who hit him.
"If my truck was a little bit slower than what it was we wouldn`t be here talking we would be on the ground somewhere," said Gfroehrer.
"Our client was signifigantly injured in a car wreck that is avoidable. PennDOT, the legislature needs to address this issue. If someone thinks this road is confusing then someone needs to do something about it before someone is killed," said Greg Fellerman, Gfroehrer's attorney.
A spokesperson for PennDOT said there are six signs warning truck drivers not to use that section of Route 115. PennDOT will continue looking into the safety concerns of that stretch of highway. We also contacted the state police to see if enforcement would be stepped up. Our phone calls were not returned.
