Car Suspected in Fatal Hit and Run Used for Reconstruction

WILKES-BARRE — Authorities in Luzerne County spent several hours Thursday evening extensively reconstructing the scene and suspected exit path of a hit-and-run driver that struck and killed a 5-year-old boy days before Christmas.

A Wilkes-Barre police department spokesperson said that the suspected vehicle seized in nearby Plains Township early in January, along with two similar Pontiac Grand Am sedans, were used to plot the suspected path of travel.

Police blocked off a three-block radius to traffic during the reconstruction, which started at 3:30 p.m.

Officials said they were also using the city’s Hawkeye surveillance camera network to compare images that were captured the night of the deadly hit and run on West North Street on December 21.kevin miller

Investigators said Kevin Miller, 5, was leaving a Christmas party with his family when he was hit while crossing the street.

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis named Thomas Letteer, 22, as a “person of interest” in the deadly hit-and-run and police seized his car on January 4.

Charges have not been filed in the ongoing investigation.
